Burns & McDonnell in Kansas City, MO received a delivery order amount of $94.4 million as part of a $150 million firm-fixed-price contract for construction of an airfield runway, pavements, and southside facilities at Fort Riley, KS. Work is expected to be complete by Feb. 15, 2009. Bids were solicited via the World Wide Web on Aug. 17, 2006, and 5 bids were received by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City, MO (W912DQ-07-D-0027).

More construction will follow, as BRAC 2005 recommendations expanded Fort Riley’s role:

“Realigning Fort Riley by inactivating an Engineer Brigade Headquarters, two other engineer units, two maneuver battalions and other smaller units beginning in FY 06… activating a BCT in FY 06 [DID: 3rd BCT, 1st Armored Division aka. “Old Ironsides”], and relocating 1st Infantry Division Headquarters, the Division Support Command Headquarters, Aviation Brigade units and other units returning from overseas [DID: Germany & Korea] to Fort Riley…. relocation of an attack aviation battalion from Fort Campbell to Fort Riley supports the formation of a multifunctional aviation brigade at Fort Riley.”

Key projects will include the Combat Aviation Brigade Complex, runway improvements, a new division headquarters facility and sustainment brigade headquarters, the Battle Command Training Center, a health and dental clinic and a child development center.
