Two firms have received $35.6 million in construction contracts to build new US Armed Forces Reserve Centers (AFRC).

Neumann Brothers in Des Moines, IA, won a $24.9 million contract to design and build an AFRC in Middletown, IA. Neumann Brothers expects to complete construction by Jan 15/12.

In addition, Journeyman Construction in Austin, TX, won a $10.7 million contract to build an AFRC in Lufkin, TX. Journeyman expects to complete contruction by March 12/11…

In Middletown, IA, Neumann Brothers will build a 1-story facility consisting of a 47,000-square-foot reserve center and a 27,000-square-foot maintenance facility. The reserve center will consist of an assembly hall, offices, classrooms, kitchen, latrines, and storage areas. The maintenance facility will include offices, tool and parts rooms, specialized storage areas for batteries and hazardous materials, general purpose maintenance bays and a wash bay.

Supporting facilities include a fenced military parking area and a privately owned vehicle parking area, aprons, curbs, sidewalks and access roads totaling approximately 23,000 square yards of concrete. The project also includes a loading ramp, landscaping, seeding, and sodding.

Bids for the Middletown project were solicited via Army Single Face to Industry website with 40 Phase I and 3 Phase II bids received by the National Guard Bureau Iowa in Johnson, IA (W912LP-10-C-0001).

In Lufkin, TX, Journeyman Construction will build a 46,550-square-foot reserve center, including classrooms, drill hall, kitchen, administration space, as well as a vehicle maintenance training bay, controlled waste and unheated storage.

Supporting facilities include land clearing, paving, fencing, general site improvements, and extension of utilities to serve the project. Physical security measures have been incorporated into the design; these include maximum standoff distance from roads, parking areas, and vehicle unloading areas.

Furniture will be purchased through another contract, and bid options for collateral equipment will be included. The contract award is contingent upon property acquisition.

Bids for the Lufkin project were solicited on the web with 14 bids received by the US Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District in Louisville, KY (W912QR10-C-0027).
