The great French military strategist and political leader Napoleon once said that “an army marches on its stomach.” This is as true today as it was when Napoleon’s troops were marching toward Moscow.

To ensure that the US Army and the other US services are well fed, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) regularly awards contracts, some small and some large, to contractors to supply food.

DLA recently awarded up to $70.6 million to 3 contractors to supply food to the US Army, US Navy, and US Air Force…

  • US Foodservice in Fairburn, GA received a maximum $32.8 million fixed price with economic price adjustment contract for food and beverage support to the Army and Air Force. The contract was Web solicited with 1 response received (SPM300-09-D-3324).
  • Reinhart Foodservice, a division of Reinhart Foodservice, in Valdosta, GA received a maximum $22.8 million firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery contract for full-line food service distribution to the Navy. The contract was Web solicited with 3 responses received (SPM300-10-D-3316).
  • Sysco Foodservice in Calera, AL received a maximum $15 million fixed price with economic price adjustment contract for food and beverage service to the Air Force, Army, and Navy. The contract was Web solicited with 1 response received (SPM300-09-D-3325).

All of the contracts were awarded Oct 19/09 and will expire at the end of the current fiscal year on Oct 16/10. DLA’s Defense Supply Center Philadelphia manages the contracts.
