US Issues RDC-5 Domestic Shipping Contracts

U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base, IL provides more than just airlift services. For heavier items, sealift is more economical, and can even be faster given required sortie rates for very large shipments. Hence the USA’s Regional Domestic Contract (RDC-5) program, where shipping companies provide services between the continental USA and Alaska, Hawaii, Guam and Puerto Rico; and from Alaska to Guam.

July 11/11: US TRANSCOM issues 11 contracts under RDC-5S, which has a maximum of $70.5 million. The contracts begin on Aug 1/11, with a base period of 4 months and 2 possible 1-year option periods. Work will be performed to and from mainland USA, Alaska, Puerto Rico, the virgin Islands, and Hawaii, with each delivery order competed among the winners. Winners included:

Nov 26/10: US TRANSCOM issues 11 cargo sealift contracts under RDC-5. The contracts begin on Dec 1/10, with a base period of 1 year and 2 possible 1-year option periods. The guaranteed minimum value is just $2,500, with a total contracts limit of $197 million. All 11 offerors received contracts as qualified firms, and individual tasks will be open to competition among them. Winners included:
