The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, MD has recently issued several contract modifications and delivery orders related to the E-2 Hawkeye carrier-capable airborne early warning and control (AWACS) aircraft. AWACS aircraft have long-range radars that can scan 360 degrees, identifying threats, passing on communications, and coordinating defensive or offensive responses. The Hawkeye’s AN/APS-145 radar, for example, is capable of tracking more than 2,000 targets and controlling the interception of 40 hostile targets at ranges over 550 km/350 miles.
The contracts total $113 million, and include both US and international orders:
Standard Aero Inc. in San Antonio, TX received an $84.7 million modification to a previously awarded indefinite-delivery/ indefinite-quantity contract (N00019-04-D-0016). It exercises an option for T56 Series III Engine Module repairs that includes repairs on 10 propulsion systems, 240 power sections, 205 reduction gear assemblies, 205 torquemeters, 30 quick engine change kits, 5 compressor assemblies and 5 turbine unit change assemblies. Standard Aero will provide the facilities, labor, spare parts, consumable material, and test equipment to return the items to Ready For Issue condition. Work will be performed at San Antonio, TX (80%); and Winnipeg, Canada (20%), and is expected to be complete in December 2006.
Rolls Royce Engine Services in Oakland, CA received an estimated value $11.1 million modification to a previously awarded indefinite-delivery/ indefinite-quantity contract (N00019-05-D-0011) for the repair of up to 175 of the T56-A-427 Series IV engines used on E-2 aircraft. Work will be performed in Oakland, CA (75%); Indianapolis, IN (15%); Greer, SC (5%) and Dallas, TX (5%), and is expected to be complete in September 2006.
Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. in Bethpage, NY received $17.2 million firm-fixed priced delivery order against a previously issued Basic Ordering Agreement (N00019-04-G-0003) for sustaining engineering services. This contract covers the E-2Cs flown by the Governments of Taiwan ($6.8 million; 40%); Egypt ($4.2 million; 24%); France ($2.6 million; 15%); Japan ($1.8 million; 10%); Mexico ($1.4 million; 8%); and Singapore ($455,000; 3%) under the Foreign Military Sales program. Work will be performed in Bethpage, NY, and is expected to be complete in December 2006.
