Lockheed Martin in Manassas, VA received a hybrid contract (firm-fixed price, and time and material) amounting to an estimated $152.1 million for the Army Knowledge Online (AKO) Enterprise Systems. As the AKO site notes:

“The mission of AKO is to transform the Institutional Army into an information-age, networked organization that leverages its intellectual capital to better organize, train, equip, and maintain a strategic land combat force.”

AKO is the Army’s intranet, integrating hundreds of applications and services across a common enterprise portal. Prior to this contract award, AKO had seven contractors managing various components, but Army officials think they can achieve some efficiencies by moving to a single contractor.

Lockheed Martin, with Computer Sciences Corp. and Science Applications International Corp. as subcontractors, will provide systems operations and maintenance, network communications, hardware and software integration, and around-the-clock help desk support for both the Non-Classified IP Router Network and the Secret IP Router Network. PEO EIS has oversight of AKO.

This performance-based contract is for a base year with six option years. Work is to be completed July 14, 2012, and will be performed at Lockheed Martin’s facilities in Manassas, VA; Chambersburg, PA; and Marlton, NJ. The Army Contracting Agency Information Technology Electronic Commerce and Commercial Contracting Center issued the contract. (W91QUZ-05-C-0039)
