$8.9M for 7 Australian HERCULES Vehicles

M88A2 HERCULES

BAE Systems Land and Armaments received an $8.9 million firm-fixed price contract for seven M88A2 Heavy Equipment Recovery Combat Utility Lift and Evacuation System (HERCULES) Vehicles and associated spare parts for the Government of Australia. Work will be performed at BAE’s United Defense facility in York, PA, and is expected to be complete by May 31, 2006. The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command in Warren, MI issued the contract. (W56HZV-04-C-0105)

NY Times on Procurement Issues for Armored Vehicles to Iraq

The New York Times ran a Sunday article re: getting adequate armored vehicles to the soldiers in Iraq.

Vehicles covered include the M1114 Up-Armored HMMWV, the M1117 Guardian Armored Security Vehicle that’s popular with MPs and has performed well in limited Iraq deployments, the Cougar HEV armored truck, and a large armored bus called the Rhino Runner that carried SecDef Rumsfeld during his Iraq trip.

Marines Place Contract Delivery Order for 17 Cougar Vehicles

On Tuesday, DID noted that Force Protection Industries Inc. in Ladson, SC had received a $45.7 contract for 71 Cougar Joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Rapid Response Vehicles, with a maximum ordering quantity of 122 (M67854-05-D-5091). Now Force Protection Industries Inc. is being awarded a $16.5 million firm-fixed-price delivery order for 17 more Cougar Joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal Rapid Response Vehicles (JERRV), associated manuals, and spares under that contract.

Work will be performed in Ladson, SC. (60%) and Charlotte, MI (40%), and is expected to be complete by May 2006. This contract is a sole source award to Force Protection Industries Inc. as they are the sole manufacturer of the Cougar JERRV. The Marine Corps Systems Command in Quantico, VA issued the contract.
