$68M to FN Manufacturing for U.S. Army M249 Machine Guns

FN Manufacturing in Columbia, SC received a $68.4 million firm-fixed-price contract to supply M249 5.56mm light machine guns to the U.S. Army. The quantity was not disclosed.

FN Manufacutring will perform the work in Columbia, with an estimated completion date of July 24/14. 1 bid solicited with 1 bid received by the U.S. Army Contracting Command, Joint Munitions & Lethality Contracting Center at Picatinny Arsenal, NJ (W15QKN-09-D-0019).

$94M to AAR Mobility for U.S. Military Containers, Shelters

AAR Mobility Systems in Cadillac, MI received a maximum $94 million fixed-price-with-economic-price-adjustment order for specialized shipping and storage containers, shelters and accessories to the U.S. military services and federal civilian agencies. The order was placed under a contract vehicle (SPM8ED-07-D-0003) administered by the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia. There was originally 1 proposal solicited with 1 response. The date of performance completion is Aug 30/10.

AAR’s Structures and Systems segment designs and manufactures custom pallets, containers, shelters, integrated communications systems, in-aircraft cargo systems and precision manufactured structures and systems for U.S. defense customers.

Raytheon to Supply APG-73 Radar Spares for the F/A-18C/D Hornets

Raytheon Co. in El Segundo, CA received a maximum $48.7 million firm-fixed-price sole-source contract for spare AN/APG-73 radar systems and parts for the U.S. Navy F/A-18C/D Hornet fighter aircraft. Raytheon will perform the work in California, Massachusettes, Mississippi and Texas. There was originally 1 proposal solicited with 1 response. The date of performance completion is July 2012. Defense Logistics Agency Procurement Operations in Philadelphia, PA manages the contract (N00383-07-G-700H-TBD).

The AGP-73 radar is still in wide use, hence the radar’s Phase II upgrades. It’s being replaced in newer planes by the next-generation AN/APG-79 AESA…

Balfour Beatty to Build 2 Schools at Fort Bragg, NC

Balfour Beatty Construction in Fairfax, VA won a $37.6 million firm-fixed-price contract for the design and construction of 2 schools in the northern training area at Fort Bragg, NC. The contractor expects to complete the construction by Mar 15/11. Proposals were solicited on the Web with 16 proposals received by the U.S. Army Engineer District in Savannah, GA (W912HN-09-C-0033).

Balfour Beatty will build a 550 student middle school to serve 6th through 8th grade students (approximately 99,300 sq. ft.) and a 714 student elementary school to serve pre-kindergarten through 5th grade students (approximately 123,616 sq. ft.). The project includes utilities, parking, playground areas, sports facilities, fencing, and landscaping and site development.

Fort Bragg is the home for the XVIII Airborne Corps, the 82nd Airborne Division, Army Special Operations Command and the Army Parachute team…

Apriva to Upgrade Secure Gateway for Secure PDAs

Apriva ISS in Scottsdale, AZ received a $17 million firm-fixed-price contract to build an updated gateway to enable U.S. military personnel to use their secure smartphones while on the move.

Under the contract, Apriva will operate and maintain the multi-carrier entry point (MCEP 1) gateway for the Defense Information Systems Agency’s secure mobile environment portable electronic device (SME-PED) network, and buildout, operate and maintain an upgraded gateway (MCEP 2).

The SME-PED is a military-specific device, and MCEP is its accompanying network equipment. It does not support all smart PDAs, and works in a specific way…
