$2B in Construction Work Related to BRAC in San Antonio Area

Around $2 billion is being doled out to contractors for major construction work taking place at US military installations in San Antonio, TX as part of ongoing Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) adjustments.

The construction program will provide facilities to accommodate thousands of military personnel, federal employees, and military missions that are moving to and within San Antonio as a result of the 2005 BRAC process.

Work is scheduled to take place at Fort Sam Houston, Camp Bullis, Lackland and Randolph Air Force Bases through September 2011…

Major US wireless carriers have received additional orders totalling $60 million to provide discounted voice and data wireless products and services to US Navy and US Marine Corps personnel.

The products and services, including high-speed mobile access using personal digital assistants (PDAs), are available to officers and enlisted personnel alike.

Project Failure: Australia’s ALR 2002 Protection System

On Sept 12/06, The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Australia’s A$ 400 million ALR2002 project, aimed at putting radar and infrared missile warning systems (RWRs) in Australia’s helicopters, transports and F/A-18s, had ended in at least partial failure with the scrapping of F/A-18 integration under the HUG 2.3 upgrade program. Sticking with the offering from
BAE Systems Australia’s electronic warfare division, they said, would deliver the project at least 2 years late and A$ 200 million over budget.

In response, a decision was formally announced on Nov 13/06. RAAF F/A-18A/B fighters would not use “Project Echidna’s” system, but its helicopters and C-130s would. More than 4 years after the original Phase 2A award, the scope of fielding for “Project Echidna” is about to be reduced again…

North Carolina Business Enterprise Program (BEP) in Raleigh, NC received a $13.9 million cost-plus-award-fee contract for full food services at Fort Bragg, NC. The contract covers food service at the fort through Aug 31/12. For the contract, 1 bid was solicited with 1 bid received. Mission & Installation Contracting Command at Fort Bragg manages the contract (W91247-09-C-0035).

BEP is a program of the North Carolina Division of Services for the Blind to provide employment opportunities to the blind and visually impaired citizens of North Carolina through the operation of vending and on-site food service locations throughout the state…

Up to $28.2M to Hologic for US Military Medical Supplies

Hologic LP in Marlborough, MA received a maximum $28.2 million firm-fixed-price, sole-source, indefinite quantity/ indefinite delivery contract to provide medical supplies to the US Army, US Navy, US Air Force and US Marine Corps.

This contract consists of a 1-year base period and four 1-year unilateral option ordering periods. The date of performance completion is Sept 30/10. The original proposal was Web solicited with 1 response by the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia, PA (SPM2DE-09-D-7228).
