The US DoD recently announced a 3-year, firm-fixed-price $353.7 million contract to Sig Sauer, Inc. in Exeter, NH. This contract covers Sig Sauer’s P226 and P228 pistols, as well as contractor furnished spare parts. Work is to be performed in Exeter, NH, and the contract will run until April 25/12. One bid was solicited, with one bid received.
The P226 lost out to Beretta’s 92F as the US military’s “M9” main sidearm, but the Navy SEALs subsequently adopted it. The P228/ M11 is a compact version that serves with US Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps flight crews, as well as criminal investigation units like Army CID, Air Force OSI, and Navy CIS. The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), a US Department of Defense combat support agency, awarded GeoEye (formerly Orbimage) in Dulles, VA a $214.2 million firm-fixed-price contract modification to supply satellite imagery to US government customers from the company’s satellite constellation.
Under the modification, the basic contract service level agreement (SLA) will be extended 4-month through Mar 31/10 ($50 million SLA value, $51.7 million miscellaneous), followed by one 9-month option (April 2010 to December 2010, $112.5 million). Work will be performed in Dulles, VA.

Raytheon received a $77.4 million foreign military sales contract to produce 266 AGM-65D and AGM-65G2 infrared-guided Maverick air-to-surface all up rounds (AURs) missiles and 1 ground control system for the governments of Korea and Taiwan. AURs are missiles in storage containers that contain appropriate electronics and can be moved from storage to loading as is.
AGM-65 rose to prominence during Desert Storm, when many of TV’s missile-eye views of air strikes came from Mavericks. Boeing Aerospace Operations in San Antonio, TX received a $102.3 million modified contract for KC-10/KDC-10 aerial tanker logistics support for the period Oct 1/09 through Jan 1/10. The modified contract is a “bridge” to a 10-year logistics support contract that is expected to be awarded at the end of September 2009, according to Boeing’s Deborah VanNierop.
Boeing secured the previous 10-year KC-10/KDC-10 logistics support contract, which expired at the end of January 2008. Boeing then received a number of contract extensions to take the company through the end of September 2009, when the new 10-year logistics support contract is expected to be awarded, noted VanNierop. The $102.3 million bridge would cover the hand over of work to a new contractor should Boeing not win the new 10-year contract, she said.
