Lockheed Tapped For AEGIS Sustainment | Morocco Gets Vehicles From India | Netherlands Get New Apaches

Sauer Construction won a $37.6 million task order to provide construction of two additions to the Trident Training Facility, a Strategic Systems Program missile control center team trainer, and Naval Sea Systems Command weapons handling system team trainer at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia. The contract also contains two unexercised options which, if exercised, would increase the cumulative contract value to $37,809,809. Work will take place in Georgia. Expected completion will be by March 2025.
Lockheed Martin won a $139.6 million deal for AEGIS fielding and sustainment (F&S). This contract provides engineering support, software development, in-service maintenance, integration, logistics and fielding support for AEGIS combat system configurations already delivered or in the process of being delivered to the Navy. This contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $852,981,561. Work will be performed in Moorestown, New Jersey; and Dahlgren, Virginia, and is expected to be completed by December 2023. If all options are exercised, work will continue through December 2029.

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems has unveiled new tactical capabilities of its surface-to-air Python 5 and Derby (SPYDER) air defense missile system. According to the Israeli firm, the combat-proven system is now fitted with a counter-tactical ballistic missile capability. The integration was reportedly inspired by recent ongoing armed conflicts involving the extensive use of tactical ballistic missiles.
The Royal Moroccan Army has taken delivery of nearly 100 six-wheeled military trucks from India’s Tata Advanced Systems. In a photo shared by the Indian Defence Research Wing, many LPTA 244 6×6 trucks were getting ready to be exported to Morocco from Port Pipavav off the West Coast of India. The Moroccan army also confirmed the export on Sunday, saying on Twitter that the vehicles were “on their way to be delivered.”

The Royal Netherlands Air Force took delivery of two new AH-64E attack helicopters on December 13, 2022 at Robert Gray Army Air Field, Texas. The new Apaches are the first two that will be operated by the unit at Fort Hood. The Dutch have had a long history with the Apache, operating D-model versions since 1998. The AH-64Es delivered are remanufactured AH-64Ds. The U.S. Department of State approved the remanufacture of the 28 Apaches from Holland in February 2018. It was estimated to have cost the Netherlands $1.191 billion back then. The first remanufactured Apache from the Netherlands was rolled out by Boeing in October 2022.

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) will increase its number of Aegis destroyers amid heightened tensions with China, Naval News reported. The development was reportedly included in the country’s National Defense Strategy, a 10-year guideline document for bolstering diplomacy, defense, and economic security. According to the document, two Aegis-equipped vessels will be added to the fleet, raising the number of ships capable of intercepting enemy ballistic missiles to 10, Naval News wrote.
