Avioss won a $15.7 million deal, which procures organizational and intermediate level peculiar and common support equipment for the V-22 program in support of the Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Foreign Military Sales customers. Work will be performed in Miami, Florida, and is expected to be completed in August 2028. No funds will be obligated at the time of award; funds will be obligated on individual orders as they are issued.

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) has opened an additional hangar at the Grand Sky Unmanned Aircraft System Business Park in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The facility will be part of the company’s training center to upskill international aircrews in operating various drones. In addition, the hangar will be used for aircraft maintenance and house two operational Ground Control Stations. It will have extra space to integrate more control platforms in the future.

Middle East and Africa

According to Military Africa, the Somali government has received a shipment of Bell 412 helicopters, and some other weapons to boost its counter-insurgency fight against the Al-Shabaab terrorist group. Two Bell 412 helicopters arrived in Mogadishu in July, while a further three would soon be delivered.

Europe

Ukraine’s allies in Europe are sending Ukraine new unmanned aerial systems and counter-drone equipment, as the war instigated by Russia enters its 18th month. German weapons maker Rheinmetall is preparing to send its LUNA NG (next-generation) unmanned reconnaissance drone to Kyiv, the company announced Aug. 14. The system should be delivered by the end of the year, according to a spokesperson.

Asia-Pacific

The US and Japan will jointly develop an interceptor missile to counter hypersonic missiles being developed by China, Russia, and North Korea. The decision is expected to be announced at a trilateral meeting of Japan, US and South Korea scheduled on August 18, The Yomiuri Shimbun said.

New Zealand plans to create another intelligence agency to help the government more rapidly react to and better coordinate its response to security threats. The Royal Commission, charged with looking into the March 2019 Christchurch mosque attacks, recommended the formation of a new agency in its report presented to Parliament in December 2020.
