Americas BAE Systems has delivered the US Marine Corps’ first Amphibious Vehicle Command and Control (ACV-C) variant following tests ensuring its mission-critical effectiveness. The ACV-C is part of a $256.8-million production contract for the vehicle’s Personnel and Combat variants. The production is estimated to be worth $111.5 million. According to Jane’s, Burkina Faso is the latest African military to procure 105 mm WMA301 fire-support vehicles made by Chinese company Norinco, it was revealed on in January when President Captain Ibrahim Traoré attended a ceremony to mark the delivery of a consignment of new military equipment. A video released by the president’s office showed Traoré inspecting six WMA301s with a command vehicle, along with eight Norinco 81 mm CS/SM1 self-propelled mortars, a type that uses a Dongfeng light tactical vehicle and has not been seen in Africa before.

Europe

Britain will send 20,000 armed forces personnel to one of NATO’s largest exercises since the Cold War, Defense Secretary Grant Shapps announced on Monday, warning of increasing threats to the Western-led alliance. The British personnel — from the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, and Army — will deploy across Europe and beyond for the military alliance’s latest “Exercise Steadfast Defender,” alongside personnel from 31 other member countries and Sweden, which is a candidate to join the transatlantic alliance.

Asia-Pacific

India’s state-run Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has test-fired the new-generation Akash (Akash-NG) surface-to-air missile (SAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur off India’s northeastern coast of Odisha, the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) said in a press release in mid-January.
