The Space Force’s primary acquisition command, Space Systems Command, will wrap up plans for two new “Systems Deltas” to support electronic warfare and positioning, navigation and timing operations by mid-next month, according to a senior SSC official.

NATO is expected to adopt its first-ever counter-drone doctrine, which will in part advise member states on layered approaches to defend against unmanned aerial systems and the common training of operators. The ambition of establishing a counter-UAS doctrine within the military alliance by the end of 2023 has been in the works for some time, according to Claudio Palestini, a senior adviser at NATO’s emerging security challenges division.

The Pentagon plans to send Israel two Iron Dome missile defense systems as the country continues to fight the militant group Hamas, according to a US Defense Department official. The transfer will aid Israel’s air defense after Hamas on October 7 launched a massive, coordinated attack — making it the deadliest day for Israel in 50 years. Some 1,400 Israelis have since been killed, and Hamas continues to fire rockets from the Gaza strip.

According to Defense News, the German air force has begun testing so-called passive radar as a complementary surveillance technique for ground-based air-defense formations, aimed at helping covert operations surprise adversaries. Luftwaffe officials want to find out whether the technology, which measures disturbances in the soup of commercial television and radio broadcast signals permeating crowded airspaces, can provide an “early cue” about approaching threats, German air force chief Lt. Gen. Ingo Gerhartz said in an interview with Defense News.

The ship is manned by the Royal Marines’ 42 Commando, a maritime specialist team trained in conducting security, support, and training operations for UK overseas partners.
