The US military said it would send more missile defense systems to the Middle East in response to “escalations” from Iran and its allies, who have threatened a broader war in the region. The deployment comes as Israel continues to signal intentions to invade Gaza after Hamas’s deadly incursion earlier this month. The ground war in Ukraine continues to grind ahead of the winter months and according to Breaking Defense, the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) are experiencing falling availability rates with their existing fleet of combat aircraft. The culprit is a combination of a high number of losses of fixed-wing aircraft combined with a drop in mission-capable rates due to the higher-than-normal number of flight hours being flown by those aircraft remaining.

Asia-Pacific

The Philippines will launch a new military command to enhance digital defense in response to growing cyber threats. The future “Cyber Security Command” will operate independently to ensure the nation’s and its armed forces’ safety against malicious actors. The unit will work to mitigate the alarming rise of cyber assaults on government agencies recorded in recent months.

The Taiwanese and French Air Forces recently conducted their annual exchange at the Chiashan Air Force Base in Hualien. The event, which took place on October 14, involved mixed teams of pilots from both nations, Central News Agency reported. During the exchange, the 17th Squadron of the Republic of China Air Force’s (RoCAF) 5th Tactical Fighter Wing assumed the role of the simulated enemy. This setup allowed them to engage in aerial tactical combat scenarios and practice various maneuvers.
