Americas Northrop Grumman won a $23 million modification for Global Hawk (RQ-4) aircraft sustainment. The contract modification is for the purchase of replenishment spares for operational use and to support depot repair. This modification also provides an option for procurement of an additional quantity of spares. The modification brings the total cumulative face value of the contract to $164,506,728. Work will be performed in Japan; and Sierra Vista, Arizona, and is expected to be completed by January 31, 2029. Leonardo has been awarded an additional integrated electric propulsion system component contract for the US Navy’s Columbia-class submarines. The $3-billion contract includes designing and manufacturing key propulsion components such as the permanent magnet main propulsion electric motor, propulsion motor drives, switchgear, and propulsion controls. The US State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Egypt of Light Tactical Vehicle Chassis and Fleet Build and related equipment for an estimated cost of $200 million. The Government of Egypt has requested to buy additional light tactical vehicle chassis and fleet build that will be added to a previously implemented case. The original Foreign Military Sales case, valued at $41.9 million, included 4-Man REV1-B Rolling Chassis with 190 horsepower (HP) diesel engines upgraded to 205HP turbocharged engines; training for chassis assembly process, operations, and maintenance; spare and repair parts; testing equipment; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistical and program support.

Europe

The US government approved a potential sale of hundreds of Javelin anti-tank missiles to Kosovo for an estimated cost of $75 million. The Republic of Kosovo has requested to buy 246 Javelin missiles and 24 lightweight command launch units, among other items, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement released on January 11.

Arms manufacturer MBDA has inked a contract with Poland to equip its navy’s Miecznik-class frigates with surface-to-air missiles. MBDA’s Sea Ceptor naval air defense system will be fitted on the Babcock-designed ships, protecting the vessels from modern threats such as supersonic anti-ship missiles and unmanned surface vessels.

Asia-Pacific

North Korea said Monday it had successfully test-fired a new ballistic missile tipped with a hypersonic maneuverable warhead, the latest breakthrough in its pursuit of advanced weaponry to threaten South Korean and US targets. The launch, Pyongyang’s first known weapons test this year and its first-ever test of a solid-fuel hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) was detected by Seoul’s military Sunday afternoon.
