Rapid Fire September 3, 2012: Cassidian Promotes Its COO

* EADS subsidiary Cassidian named COO Bernhard Gerwert as its new CEO. Gerwert, a 59-year old German, joined EADS in 2004 replaces Stefan Zoller who left the group.

* What’s new in China’s Type 052D destroyers? This remains to some extent speculative, based on analysis of a few pictures. A question that stays on the back of our mind: who takes these pictures and how come they make it through China’s massive online censorship apparatus?

* China is pushing India closer to the US, says former Ambassador T.P.Sreenivasan. India is also “looking east“, making deals with countries such as Vietnam.

* Swedish-owned, Indonesia-based North Sea Boats launched its first Fast Missile Trimaran Patrol Vessel, built in infused carbon fiber composite for the Indonesian Navy.

* A USMC F/A-18C Hornet crashed on Saturday at the Fallon Range Training Complex (FRTC) in Nevada. The pilot ejected and was recovered with minor injuries.
