Up to $124.9M to LM for US Naval Air Terminal Ground Handling Services in Italy
Lockheed Martin in Bethesda, MD won a $14.6 million firm-fixed-price contract to provide air terminal ground handling services at US Naval Support Activity Naples and US Naval Air Station Sigonella in Italy.
The contract contains a 7-month base period and 5 one-year options, which, if exercised, bring the total value of the contract to $124.9 million.
Naval Support Activity Naples and the Naval Air Station Sigonella both support the US Navy’s Sixth Fleet.
The Naval Support Activity Naples provides administrative and logistic support to over 100 tenant commands and activities throughout the Mediterranean region, which includes NATO forces and the US Sixth Fleet.
The principal striking power of the Sixth Fleet resides in its aircraft carriers and jet aircraft, its submarines, and its reinforced battalion of US Marines on board amphibious ships deployed in the Mediterranean. Altogether, approximately 40 ships, 175 aircraft, and 21,000 people make up the Sixth Fleet.
The Naval Air Station Sigonella on the island of Sicily provides consolidated operational, command and control, administrative, logistical and advanced logistical support for US and NATO forces. The station is the major support element for the Sixth Fleet.
NAS Sigonella supports a rotational patrol squadron, a helicopter combat support squadron, C-2, C-9, and C-130 cargo aircraft detachments, shore-based fleet aircraft, transient NATO aircraft, and US Air Force transient aircraft.
Lockheed Martin will perform the work in Sigonella, Italy (70%) and Naples, Italy (30%), which the company expects to complete by September 2010.
This contract was competitively procured, with 6 proposals solicited and 3 offers received by the Naval Regional Contracting Detachment Naples, Fleet and Industrial Supply Center (FISC) Sigonella in Italy (N68171-10-C-0004).
The Navy established the FISC Sigonella in 2005 as the logistics hum for Navy Region Europe. Existing supply departments at bases located throughout Europe, the Mediterranean and the North Atlantic operate as detachments under FISC Sigonella.
