Alliant Techsystems won an $80 million contract from the U.S. Army to begin production on the XM395 precision-guided mortar munition. The production will start off at a low rate. The contract runs through 2009 and could be worth as much as half a billion dollars at higher production levels. The contract was originally awarded a year ago, but competing vendor Lockheed Martin protested the original decision. Alliant Techsystems won a subsequent Army review. The project will be run out of the company's Plymouth, MN location.
