Americas Amentum has won an $818-million contract to manage the modernization and sustainment of US Navy F-16 Viper adversary fighter jets at Naval Air Station Fallon, Nevada. The Viper is the aggressor version of the Fighting Falcon fourth-generation multi-role combat aircraft. It plays the enemy role or “red team” to train naval airmen in simulated warfare. Under the agreement, the firm will provide fleet maintenance, technical, and logistics solutions. The proposed arms package includes the sale of up to 38 F-16 fighter jets from Denmark and four P-3 maritime patrol aircraft from Norway. Middle East

The US Army awarded Bryan Shush JV with a $35.9 million deal for the construction of a life-support area. Bids were solicited via the internet with five received. Work will be performed in Israel, with an estimated completion date of August 30, 2026.

Europe

The US State Department approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Romania of Assault Amphibious Vehicles (AAVs) and related equipment for an estimated cost of $120.5 million. Bucharest has requested 21 AAVs: 16 in the personnel carrier variant, three in the mobile command variant, and two in the armored recovery variant. It also wants to acquire 16 .50 caliber machine guns, five 7.62-millimeter M240B machine guns, and an undisclosed number of MK-19 grenade launchers.

The US State Department approved a sale to the newest NATO member Finland for a M270A2 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) upgrade and related equipment for an estimated cost of $395 million. Finland has requested services to modernize its M270A1 MLRS fleet into the M270A2 model to enhance interoperability with US. and allied forces, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Tuesday. The updated system will include intercom hardware, machine gun and radio communication mounts, a battle management system vehicle integration kit, publications for MLRS, spares and program and logistics support services.

Asia-Pacific

The Indonesian military demonstrated the lethality of its French-made Exocet and Chinese-made C-802 anti-ship missiles during the sea phase of its Joint Exercise 2023. Two Exocets fired from Sigma-class frigates successfully sank a decommissioned Indonesian Navy warship with the help of C-802 and C-705 missiles. Two F-16 fighter aircraft also dropped four M117/MK-12 general purpose bombs to complete the kill chain.
