Defense System Command Center in Guam | Terma Surveillance Radar System For Canada | Thai Air Force Demonstrates “Kamikaze Drone”

The US Department of Defense has contracted a Guam-based firm to build an air and missile defense system command center in the strategically important US island territory. Core Tech-HDCC-Kajima LLC will fulfill the $295-million-contract with an estimated completion date of March 2029. A subsidiary of multi-industry conglomerate Core Tech, the company has been awarded previous defense construction projects for Guam.

The US and NATO allies have rolled out the “Eastern Flank Deterrence Line,” prioritizing ground-based capabilities and weapons interoperability as a bulwark against Russian aggression. General Christopher Donahue of the US Army Command in Europe and Africa unveiled the plan at the inaugural LandEuro two-day conference in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Ministers from Israel’s ultra-Orthodox Shas party resigned on Wednesday over the coalition’s failure to pass a military service exemption law but said they would still support Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and not back any no-confidence vote. It comes only days after another Israeli ultra-Orthodox party quit the government and coalition. Israeli government members from the ultra-Orthodox Jewish party Shas announced on Wednesday their resignation, protesting the ruling coalition’s failure to pass a law to exempt their community from military service.

Danish defense firm Terma has teamed up with Northrop Grumman subsidiary Sperry Marine to supply advanced naval surveillance radars for two of Canada’s upcoming vessels. The partnership will deliver SCANTER 4603 and SCANTER 6002 radars to Seaspan Shipyards, which is constructing the Canadian Coast Guard’s Multi-Purpose Vessel and Polar Icebreaker as part of the National Shipbuilding Strategy. The ships will be used for a variety of missions, including sovereignty protection, search and rescue, and emergency response.

On July 5, the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) announced it had successfully conducted a live flight and target engagement activity using a new type of locally developed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). This indigenous UAV is designed to conduct precise strikes on medium-range targets whilst under the control of a remote operator. Often referred to as “kamikaze drones”, this type of weapon has seen wide-scale use in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
