Americas The US Government Accountability Office (GAO) has upheld the army’s decision to award a $9.7-billion Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) production contract to AM General instead of incumbent contractor Oshkosh Defense. The decision was released three months after the Wisconsin-based firm filed a protest, citing “significant concerns” about how competing proposals were evaluated. Leidos segment Dynetics has finished the maiden test flight of a new US hypersonic test bed at the Rocket Lab complex in NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility, Virginia. The demonstration is part of a Multi-Service Advanced Capability Hypersonic Test Bed (MACH-TB) program to accelerate the testing of commercial hypersonic components. The MACH-TB includes producing an experimental glide body to measure and verify hypersonic component data. Middle East & Africa Elbit Systems unveiled the Nano SPEAR radar-guided air-to-air and surface-to-air missile countermeasure system at the Paris Airshow. The Nano is part of the SPEAR family of active radio frequency decoy systems, including the Micro SPEAR for very small platforms, Light SPEAR for medium-large sized helicopters and drones, and the Advanced SPEAR currently installed on the C-390 transport aircraft. Raytheon Missiles and Defense won a $1 billion deal for Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) Production Lot 37. This contract provides for the production of AMRAAM missiles, AMRAAM Telemetry System, initial and field spares, and other production engineering support activities. Work will be performed in Tucson, Arizona, and is expected to be completed by January 31, 2027. This contract involves unclassified Foreign Military Sales to Bahrain, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom, which accounts for approximately 39% of the contract value.

US bomber jets have landed in Sweden for the first time in modern history for training exercises with the NATO invitee, the military said Wednesday. Sweden, which abandoned two centuries of military non-alignment to seek NATO membership last year, announced earlier this month that it was ready to host NATO troops in its soil even before it becomes a member of the alliance. Two American B-1B Lancers landed at Lulea-Kallax airport in northern Sweden on Monday June 19, the military said.

Asia-Pacific

Leonardo and Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) have recently inked a significant contract for additional MCH-101 naval helicopters, strengthening the fleet of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF). The contract also marks the commencement of a mid-life update (MLU) program for the MCH-101 in Japan. As a license-built version of the Leonardo AW101 helicopter, the MCH-101 has proven its capabilities over the years and continues to play a crucial role in Japan’s defense operations.
