Triumph Engine Control Systems won a $56.3 million deal for maintenance and overhaul of the Enhanced Digital Electronic Control Unit in support of Black Hawk helicopters. The UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter is the US Army’s primary medium-lift utility transport and air assault aircraft. It is a twin-engined medium-lift utility helicopter. It is equipped with a single 4-bladed rotor and a single 4-bladed tail rotor. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of September 21, 2027. US Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity.
General Dynamics won a $48.3 million contract modification by the US Army for Abrams systems technical support. The M1 Abrams is a third-generation American main battle tank. Work will be performed in Sterling Heights, Michigan, with an estimated completion date of June 24, 2024. Fiscal year 2022 research development, test and evaluation, Army; fiscal year 2022 other procurement, Army; and fiscal year 2010 foreign military sales (Kuwait) funds in the amount of $48,319,342 were obligated at the time of the award.

Reuters reports that Israel has agreed to sell the Spyder air defense system made by Rafael to the United Arab Emirates. Reuters claimed that the information came from two sources and that a third source says Israel will transfer technological knowhow to the UAE. The Spyder is an Israeli short and medium range mobile air defence system.
The Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW), an international airlift mission based in Europe using three C-17s, could be replicated in Africa using C-130s, based on a proposal put forward by the USAir Force. The disclosure was made by Gen. James Hecker, commander of US Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa, and reported by Aviation Week. The idea will be discussed at the Association of African Air Forces (AAAF) meeting in Senegal next month. Although there are several C-130 operators in Africa. The idea is to pool money together to get new C-130s and share it amongst the users.
Defense News reports that Greece is working to ramp up its domestic drone industry with the development of the locally made “Archytas” aircraft. Officials presented the vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drone for the first time at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition earlier this month. The fixed-wing aircraft is a joint production between the Hellenic Aerospace Industry (EAB) and the Aristotle, Thessaly and Democritus universities.
Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense has announced that it will build 10 additional Tuo Chiang corvettes amid increasing tensions with China. The initiative is part of the island nation’s continuing military modernization efforts to deter a possible invasion by Beijing.
