Jordan Submits $220M Weapons Wish List to USA

HIMARS launcher order goes through. (Feb 19/10)

In September 2009, long-time US Middle East ally Jordan submitted an impressive wish list of weapons for its armed forces to the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA). The list includes rocket launchers, radios, and Humvees.

DSCA said that weapons Jordan wants to buy will provide its armed forces with a long-range precision artillery support capability that will significantly improve US-Jordan interoperability and provide for the defense of vital installations. What exactly is Jordan looking for?

July 20/10: Lockheed Martin’s Full Rate Production Lot VI order for GMLRS rockets includes weapons for Jordan: 24 unitary pods, 24 download/demate unitary pods, 36 RRPR pods, 36 download/demate RRPR pods, and GMLRS technical publications. Read “GMLRS Rockets: FRP-V Orders.”

Feb 19/10: Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control in Grand Prairie, TX receives a $26.9 million firm-fixed-price contract for HIMARS systems, exercising an option within Full Rate Production Lot 5 for Jordan’s 12 launchers.

Work is to be performed in Grand Prairie, TX (40%) and East Camden, AR (60%) with an estimated completion date of Feb 28/12. One bid was solicited with one bid received by the U.S. Army Contracting Command’s Aviation & Missile Command Contracting Center at Redstone Arsenal, AL (W31P4Q-08-C-0001).

Sept 9/09: The US DSCA has announces [PDF] Jordan’s official request to buy:

  • 3 M108A1P2 FMTV wreckers for towing disabled vehicles;
  • 27 AN/VRC-92E Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio Systems (SINCGARS); and
  • 18 AN/VRC-90E SINCGARS and related services and support.

Also included in Jordan’s request are support equipment, communications equipment, spare and repair parts, test sets, batteries, laptop computers, publications and technical data, facility design, personnel training and equipment, systems integration support, US Government and contractor engineering and logistics personnel services, and other related elements of logistics support.

The principal contractors supplying the equipment will be:

  • Lockheed Martin Missile and Fire Control in Dallas, TX
  • BAE Systems in Sealy, TX
  • ITT in Fort Wayne, IN
  • Raytheon in Fort Wayne, IN.
