Shaw Group, Inc. subsidiary Shaw Remediation Services LLC in Virginia Beach, Va., is being awarded $25 million under previously awarded cost-plus-award-fee contract N62470-02-D-3260 to exercise Option 3 for environmental remediation services at Department of Navy and Marine Corps installations and other government agencies under the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Atlantic area of responsibility. This is the first time this contract has been publicly mentioned on DefenseLINK, but the current release notes that the estimated contract amount after exercise of this option is $100 million. The potential total contract amount is not to exceed $125 million.

It has been a good week for Shaw. Q1 FY 2006 financial results, announced on January 6, 2006, were strong. That same day, the firm announced that Paducah Remediation Services, LLC, a joint venture between Shaw and native-owned small business Portage Environmental, Inc., received a $192 million contract from the U.S. Department of Energy. They will perform environmental remediation and waste management activities at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Paducah, KY.

Work on Shaw’s NAVFAC contract will take place at sites ranked on the Superfund National Priority List, Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, underground storage tanks and other sites that might require remedial action. It will take place in the states of Virginia (19%); North Carolina (19%); West Virginia (19%); Maryland (19%); Washington, D.C. (19%) and other locations, as required by the Government which may also include remote sites (5%).

The contract will run until January 5, 2007, and contract funds will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The basic contract was competitively procured via the NAVFAC e-solicitation website with seven proposals received and award made on Jan. 6, 2003. The Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic in Norfolk, VA issued the contract.
