Katrina 2005(click to view full) Mississippi Power Co., an investor-owned utility company in Gulfport, MS received a $16.6 million firm-fixed-price modification to previously awarded electric commodity contract for utility hardening work at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport, MS. They will convert the electricity supply from overhead lines to underground lines to improve the survivability of the infrastructure, hopefully minimizing infrastructure downtime when subjected to hurricanes or acts of terrorism. Work is expected to be completed by August 2009. This contract was negotiated on a sole-source basis by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast in North Charleston, SC (N62467-88-F-1862/ Modification P00006).
