FN Manufacturing LLC in Columbia, SC received a $52.1 million firm-fixed-price contract for M240B Machine Guns. The M240 was adopted by the U.S. following a world-wide search for a reliable 7.62 mm coaxial NATO machinegun for tanks and armored vehicles. Because all M240/MAG58 variants have interchangeable components and are interoperable, an M240B buttstock, bipod, and infantry trigger frame assembly can be carried in an armored vehicle or helicopter so the crew can convert it to an M240B infantry weapon if the need arises. No doubt this versatility helped lead to the M240B’s selection as the new medium machine gun for the U.S. Army. Work will be performed in Columbia, SC and is expected to be complete by July 30, 2007. This was a sole source contract initiated on Aug. 1, 2005 by the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command in Rock Island, IL (W52H09-05-C-0283).
