Small business qualifier TJC Engineering in Louisville, KY won a $13.6 million firm-fixed-price construction contract for repair and alterations to Buildings 3755 and 3740 at Naval Air Station (NAS) Kingsville in Texas.

NAS Kingsville is one of the US Navy’s premier locations for jet aviation training, according to Globalsecurity.org. Located just east of Kingsville, TX, population 25,000, the Naval Air Station’s primary mission is to train tactical jet pilots for the Navy and Marine Corps. To accomplish its mission, NAS Kingsville is home to Training Air Wing 2 and several tenant commands, military as well as civilian, with a total complement of approximately 300 officers, 200 enlisted, 350 civilian personnel, and 625 contract maintenance personnel.

Under this contract, TJC will convert Building 3755 from a bachelor enlisted quarters to transient quarters…

The contractor will demolish the interior of Building 3755 and construct new 1-bedroom units, install a new HVAC system, and upgrade the electrical system and fire protection system to comply with current codes. The repairs and alterations to Building 3755 will allow the transient personnel housed in Building 3730, which is scheduled to be demolished, to move to Building 3755. The contractor will make exterior repairs to Building 3740, which will include exterior window and roof replacement.

TJC expects to complete the work at NAS Kingsville by March 2011. This contract was competitively procured via the Navy Electronic Commerce Online website, with 3 proposals received by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast in Jacksonville, FL (N69450-09-C-0769).
