Lockheed Martin won a $99.5 million modification, which procures long lead time materials, parts, components, and efforts in support of maintaining on-time production and delivery of 147 Lot 18 F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft for the Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customers, and non-US Department of Defense (DOD) participants. Work will be performed in Fort Worth, Texas; El Segundo, California; Warton, United Kingdom; Cameri, Italy; Orlando, Florida; Nashua, New Hampshire; Baltimore, Maryland; San Diego, California; and various locations outside the US, and is expected to be completed in January 2027.

D7 LLC won a $11 million deal for the design and build renovation project in Hangar 1002 on Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. This contract provides a hoist crane and renovation of three floors of Hangar 1002, Island B, in preparation for the upcoming AC-130J mission. Work will be performed at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico, and is expected to be completed by December 13, 2024.

Middle East

Lockheed Martin won a $34.5 million modification under a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) case to the United Arab Emirates. Under this contract modification, the contractor will procure and deliver outside the contiguous US contractor logistics support training, technical manuals, spare parts, software, engineering, and technical services. The work will be performed in Huntsville, Alabama. The performance period is from July 13, 2023 through September 30, 2026.

A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) FT-7NI trainer jet crashed in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, during a routine training exercise on Friday. The incident occurred at approximately 4:15 pm, with the two pilots on board ejecting unharmed. The crash was confirmed by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF. According to Gabkwet, the FT-7NI trainer aircraft crashed while engaged in routine training maneuvers. He emphasized that there were no reported casualties or damage to property in the vicinity of the crash site.

Europe

Leonardo, the Italian aerospace and defense company, has unveiled the next phase of upgrades for the Eurofighter Typhoon’s Defensive Aids Sub-System (DASS). These upgrades, proposed for the Eurofighter four-nation Phase 4 Enhancement (P4E) package, are set to significantly enhance the aircraft’s survivability capabilities. Furthermore, these upgrades will also be made available for export customers, extending the reach of this cutting-edge technology.

Asia-Pacific

The Australian and Vietnamese militaries have teamed on a United Nations Mission (UNMISS)  to deliver medical field support for the ongoing conflict in South Sudan. During the mission, a Royal Australian Air Force C-17A Globemaster strategic transport aircraft conducted a strategic airlift for more than 60 Vietnamese warfighters, enabling the country to rotate its staff at the Role 2 Field hospital in Sudan.
