Oct 3/06: Small business qualifier Barr Laboratories Inc. in Pomona, NY recently received a $20.8 million increment as part of a $68.9 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for reinstatement of the adenovirus type 4 and 7 vaccine program. Work will be performed in Pomona, NY (30%), Silver Spring, MD (7.5%), Chicago, IL (32.5%), and Columbia, SC (30%), and is expected to be complete by Sept. 30, 2010. This was a sole source contract initiated on March 5, 2001 by the U.S. Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity at Fort Detrick, MD (DAMD17-01-C-0058). Acute respiratory disease (ARD), first recognized among military recruits during World War II, can be caused by adenovirus infections during conditions of crowding and stress. Type 4 and Type 7 vaccines are targeted at this specific problem.
