$55.9M to AICI to Build CAS Apron at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar

Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar(click to view full) American International Contractors Inc. (AICI) in Arlington, VA received a $55.9 million firm-fixed-price contract for the construction of a close air support (CAS) parking apron at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. AICI will design and build an aircraft parking apron with tie-ins to taxiways and runways and a hydrant fueling system. Al Udeid Air Base is a military base located west of Doha, Qatar… Al Udeid Air Base is host to a forward headquarters of US Central Command and home to No. 83 Expeditionary Air Group RAF and the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing of the USAF. Its runway is the longest in the Persian Gulf. The facility’s shelters can accommodate nearly 100 aircraft, more than needed by the Qatari Air Force, which has only a dozen fighters. The facility is owned and operated by the Qatari armed forces. AICI expects to complete construction of the CAS apron by Dec 21/11. For the contract, 34 bids were solicited with 13 bids received by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Middle East District, CETAM-CT-M in Winchester, VA (W912ER-10-C-0012).
