Barnhart in San Diego, CA received an $8.7 million firm-fixed-price task order (#0004) under a previously awarded indefinite-delivery/ indefinite-quantity, multiple-award construction contract (N62473-08-D-8608) for design and construction of a Special Operations Forces (SOF) combat crew training facility at Naval Base Coronado, CA.

The 2-story structure will provide classrooms for training and a boat maintenance and storage area. Naval Base Coronado is a consolidated U.S. Navy installation including 8 military facilities stretching from San Clemente Island to the La Posta Mountain Warfare Training Facility, encompassing more than 57,000 acres.

The base was created in 1997 by consolidating 7 separate naval installations under one commanding officer: Naval Air Station North Island; Naval Amphibious Base Coronado; Naval Outlying Landing Field Imperial Beach; Naval Auxiliary Landing Field San Clemente Island; Silver Strand Training Complex, formerly known as the Naval Radio Receiving Facility; Mountain Warfare Training Facility La Posta; and the Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape Facility, Warner Springs. Camp Morena was added in 2008.

Employing over 36,000 military and civilian personnel, the base accounts for over 30% of the region’s total workforce and has the largest workforce in San Diego County.
