San Jose is a Naval Fleet Auxiliary Force ship owned and operated by Military Sealift Command. This contract contains options, which if exercised, would bring the cumulative total of the entire contract to $9.5 million. Work will be performed in Santa Rita, Guam, and is expected to be complete by March 2007. This contract was a sole source procurement by the U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Fleet Support Command, Ship Support Unit San Diego (N40443-07-C-0003).
Combat stores ships like the USNS San Jose have been described as floating supermarkets, and they carry virtually every type of food and supply needed by our Navy ships. Military Sealift Command combat stores ships carry spare and repair parts for other ships and aircraft and also have a limited capability to transfer fuel to other Navy ships at sea.
