CEDS Displays for Navy Ships

The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington Navy Yard, DC has issued a cost-plus-award-fee, fixed-price incentive/ firm-fixed-price hybrid, indefinite-delivery/ indefinite-quantity contracts for the Phase II development, qualification, production, and support of the Common Enterprise Display System (CEDS) Display Consoles. The contract will provide CEDS Display Consoles in support of the DDG 1000 Zumwalt Class and and AEGIS destroyer & cruiser Modernization. The CEDS is a family of displays that will be implemented across platform systems on Navy surface ships, submarines, and aircraft, providing a common interface to the Platform Open Architecture Computing Environment. Remote displays will be used in conjunction with display consoles.
This is not a completely new idea. The AN/UYQ-70 (Q-70 program) builds commercial off the shelf computing into a set of ruggedized consoles that are widely used on land, airborne, naval, and undersea platforms in the USA and beyond. Winners of recent CEDS contracts include:

Nov 5/07: General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems in Fairfax, VA received a maximum $83 million contract. Work will be performed in Fairfax, VA (69.34%); Fremont, CA (8.52%); Washington, DC (7.64%); Tallman, NY (4.90%); Smithfield, PA (4.65%); Scottsdale, AZ (4.34%); Virginia Beach, VA (.41%); Huntsville, AL (.19%); Arlington, VA (.01%), and is expected to be complete by November 2008. The contract was competitively procured via full and open competition and was solicited through the Navy Electronic Commerce Online and Federal Business Opportunities websites, with 2 offers received (N00024-07-D-5222)
This CEDS team includes General Dynamics C4 Systems in Scottsdale, AZ; 901D in Tallman, NY; Themis Computing in Fremont, CA; Argon ST in Smithfield, PA; Paradigm Technologies in Arlington, VA and Huntsville, AL; and Klett Consulting Group in Virginia Beach, VA. GD release.
Nov 5/07: DRS C3 Systems, LLC in Gaithersburg, MD received a maximum $62.6 million cost contract. Work will be performed in Duluth, GA (45%); Gaithersburg, MD (20%); Dahlgren, VA (20%); Johnstown, PA (10%); and Chesapeake, VA (5%), and is expected to be complete by November 2008.
