$43.9M to Boeing to Support Civil-Derived Military Aircraft

Boeing Aerospace Operations in Oklahoma City, OK received a $43.9 million time-and-material and firm-fixed-price contract modification to provide for contractor logistics support and umbrella engineering support services for Boeing military aircraft derived from commercial platforms: “sustaining and non-recurring services to support research and development, aircraft modifications, aircraft maintenance and technical services for Boeing commercial derivative military use aircraft.”

These kinds of efforts are especially important when dealing with aging aircraft fleets, an issue DID has covered in the past – and will continue to cover, given its significance to the US military as the defense procurement spiral bites ever-harder. The USA operates a broad cross-section of civilian-derived Boeing aircraft: E-3 Sentry AWACS, E-4 NAOC, E-8 J-STARS, KC-135 Stratotanker, RC-135 Combat Sent/ Rivet Joint (Boeing 707); C-40 Clipper, T-43 navigation trainer (Boeing 737); VC-25 Air Force One (Boeing 747); C-32 (Boeing 757); C-9 Nightingale hospital transport, C-9B Skytrain II (MD DC-9); KC-10 Extender (MD DC-10).

This effort also supports foreign military to the Royal Netherlands Air Force. Note that the KDC-10 tanker/transport is the RNLAF’s only Boeing “commercial derivative military use aircraft.”

This work will be complete by September 2006. The location of performance is Boeing facilities Midwest City, OK (45%), and Boeing, Wichita, KS (55%). The Headquarters Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center at Tinker Air Force Base, OK issued the contract (F34601-02-C-0003/P00015).
