Smiths Detection Inc. in Edgewood, MD received a cost-plus-incentive fee/award-fee contract for a Meteorological Mobile Facility (METMF) replacement next generation (NEXGEN) prototype. Smiths Detection will design, fabricate, integrate, deliver and test a prototype METMF-R NEXGEN system, that will replace the legacy METMF-R. This system will use current and emerging state-of-the-art technologies to offer smaller size and increased mobility/scalability, which will significantly improve the provision of meteorological and oceanographic support to the Marine Air Ground Task Force in every clime and place. This $8 million contract includes options, which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to an estimated $11.3 million. Work will be performed in Edgewood, MD and is expected to be complete by April 2008 (Sept. 2009 with options). This contract was competitively procured with unlimited proposals solicited and two offers received via the Commerce Business Daily’s Federal Business Opportunities website, and the SPAWAR e-Commerce Central website. The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command in San Diego, CA issued the contract (N00039-06-C-0032).
